ABOUT
Unlikely. If you asked my high school English teacher, Ms. McGivern, what the odds were that I would write a book, that would most likely have been her answer. To be fair, if you asked me the same question back in high school, I probably would have answered the same way. Her inscription in my year book was “Go find yourself Holden.”
That being said, anyone who knows me knows I have a deep love of books. Ever since grammar school I have devoured as many books as I can. It doesn’t matter whether it is fiction or non-fiction, mystery, sci-fi, biography, historical, or one of the classics, I love to read. As a kid, on a warm summer day, I would routinely read a whole paperback in a single day.
I have come to love writing as much as I do reading. I started writing short stories as a primer for my first novel and even
wrote a bunch of poems. There is also a small stack of haikus which are mostly in a Chuck Palahniuk style.
As I gained confidence I started to think more like a writer, and less like a reader. What message was the author trying to convey? How was the story structured? How did the characters develop? I want to create worlds.
What else defines me? I’ve been married forever having met my wife while we were both in high school. We have a beautiful and talented daughter. My writing buddy is our little dog who sits at my feet looking for attention.
When I am not reading or writing I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and the occasional cigar with some bourbon.
A partial list of authors who have inspired me - Patrick O’Brian, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, Chuck Palahniuk, Umberto Eco, Robert Caro, Tom Clancy, Ernest Hemingway, JD Salinger, John Grisham, Herman Melville and Arthur Conan Doyle.
